About The Ability Experience
The Ability Experience, formally known as Push America, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving people with disabilities. The Ability Experience was founded in 1977 as the national philanthropy of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, designed to instill lifelong service in its members, enhancing the quality of life among people living with disabilities. While the organization for which it was intended continues to fulfill its purpose, The Ability Experience has grown into a nationally recognized non-profit with a multiplicity of programs designed to educate undergraduates, alumni, and communities in general on the abilities of people with disabilities.
"We use shared experiences to support people with disabilities and develop the men of Pi Kappa Phi into servant leaders," as it has proudly done for over 35 years. The wording may change, but still, The Ability Experience focuses on "Create a community, one relationship at a time, where the abilities of all people are recognized and valued."
Participants will live out the four core values of The Ability Experience—abilities, teamwork, empathy, and integrity—on all kinds of programs that serve others. But most importantly, raised funds do tend to come in handy when there is a need to bring out awareness regarding the marvelous things people with disabilities can do, as opposed to what they cannot do.
TODAY
Today, The Ability Experience still uses construction and cycling as major vehicles for impact, but it also added The Ability Experience Challenges – a series of events not limited to members of Pi Kappa Phi but for any person in the world whose sole objective is to push the limits of human ability. But so much more than any one event, it was the very idea of service leadership. Each individual Ability Experience program gives of oneself for the betterment of others and presents the gift of a lifetime commitment to being of service.
